What do you do when life’s many stressors get the best of you? That’s what the women who attended a Thursday-night women’s book study this fall learned as they read and discussed Unglued: Making Wise Choices in the Midst of Raw Emotions by best-selling Christian author Lysa Terkeurst.

The study was led by Kathy Hulin, All Saints’ Director of Family Ministries, and helped attendees learn how to make wise choices in situations that become out of control by:

  •  improving communication;
  • managing tendencies to “stuff” or “explode” your emotions;
  • and most importantly, turning our focus to Jesus.

Aside from the readings each week, the group discussions were an important part of the study. “Everyone opened up, and I think that’s very special,” says attendee Linda Frick.

Amy Taylor, another class participant, adds: “Kathy Hulin’s book study was wonderful! I encourage this book to any woman wanting to grow in Christ wherever you are in your daily walk.” Amy says she was especially inspired by a quote by Goethe that Kathy shared at the beginning of the class. Kathy said it was a favorite of her father-in-law:

If you treat an individual as he is, he will remain how he is. But if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be and could be, he will become what he ought to be and could be.

Despite the rather serious topic, both the book and the class were also light-hearted. “I really got the humor out of it,” says Cathy James. “Lysa made us laugh. She made me feel joyous.” And feeling joyous is what makes these studies so meaningful.

“We’re a group of women getting together,” adds Gloria Gangwer, “and that’s always special.”

A new women’s book study will be offered beginning in January. The next book to be read is The Grand Weaver: How God Shapes Us Through the Events of Our Lives by Ravi Zacharias. Classes will be held on eight consecutive Thursdays in the late afternoon starting Jan. 11 and continuing through March 1. Contact Kathy Hulin for details if you are interested in attending. We hope to see you there!
