- Let your face reflect sincere joy when you interact with your child.
- Communication (James 1:19)
- The goal in listening is to better know and understand your child.
- The goal in speaking is to encourage, teach and help your child to know you.
- Make time to listen with your full attention and take time to talk.
- Availability (Deuteronomy 6:7)
- Engage your child in activities inside and outside your child's world.
- Give your children access to you at work or through your schedule.
- Be involved in the daily routine and care of your children.
- Provision (1 Timothy 5:8)
- Protect your children.
- Provide for your children.
- Show them how to put God first.
- Pamper your children, but don't spoil them.
- Ask God to help you provide for their emotional needs.
- Training (Proverbs 22:6)
- Pray for your child and bless your child.
- Teach your child the Word.
- Don't rely on others to fulfill your responsibility at church or school for teaching your children.
A father
was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible
means!" His
father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?"
The son replied, "I do
know!" "Okay," said his father, "what does the Bible mean?" "That's easy,
Daddy," the young boy replied
excitedly, "it stands for Basic Instruction Before Leaving
Earth."
