Holy Day:
A special day of observance in the church calendar. They usually commemorate an event in the life of Christ, one of the Apostles, or the death of a major saint. Major holy days are called "red letter days" because in earlier prayer books, they were written in red ink. In today's BCP, they are in bold font. There are also lesser holy days which celebrate persons and events that are not of universal interest. They are called the "Lesser Feasts & Fasts."
Holy Days of Obligation:
Christmas Day, the Epiphany, Ascension Day, and All Saints' Day. It is the tradition to have a Holy Eucharist on these days.
Holy Saturday:
The Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Sunday. It is the last day of Holy Week and it is the remembrance of the Lord's burial.
Holy Week: The most important period of the church year, from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday. There are many special services during this time (BCP pp. 270-283). The week commemorates our Lord's Passion and Death. It is also known as Passion Week. It consists of:
Palm Sunday
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Holy Week
Maundy Thursday
Good Friday
