Great Vigil of Easter
Good Friday

Great Vigil of Easter: The Great Vigil of Easter is the beginning of the Fifty Days of Easter celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord. It begins at sunset on Holy Saturday, and runs until dawn on Easter Sunday. It is the first service of Easter and it is the most important time of the year for baptisms. At this service, the Paschal Candle is blessed with much ceremony and lessons are read telling of God's deliverance of mankind.

Good Friday: The Friday before Easter Day on which the Passion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ is remembered (BCP, pp. 276ff). It is called "good" because of the atoning sacrifice of the Lord as the Savior of mankind.
