Fair Linen:
A white seamless linen cover for the altar top, used during Holy Eucharist. Sometimes, rather unlovingly called an Altar Cloth. It is a symbol of Christ's burial cloth and it should be treated with great respect. It is traditionally embroidered with five crosses for the five wounds of Christ.
Flagon: A medium to large metal or ceramic pitcher that is bigger than a cruet and is used instead of, or in addition to, cruets at larger celebrations of
Holy Communion.
Flowers: The custom of decorating the sanctuary with floral arrangements goes back to the earliest days of the Church, at least to the 7th century. It is not traditional to place flowers 'on' the altar at all and it is also tradition not to have flowers during Lent.
Many churches place them near the crossing or on the reredos. They symbolize the resurrected life of our Lord Jesus Christ. The beauty of the flowers has come to mean the grace and truth of life in Christ.
It is considered distasteful and inappropriate to place artificial
flowers in a sanctuary or other holy place in an Episcopal church.
Funeral Pall: A large cloth traditionally placed over the casket for a funeral service. These are normally white and decorated.
