Gospel Side:
The Gospel side of the church is on the right-hand side of the priest
facing the congregation when he or she is at the altar celebrating the
Holy Eucharist, which is the liturgical north side of the worship space from the perspective of the congregation facing the altar. The opposite is the Epistle side.
The Gospel is read from the pulpit (when there is no Gospel Procession) and from the center of the nave, when there is a Gospel Procession. This is symbolic of the Great Commission and the directive from our Lord Jesus that the Gospel be carried to the people (unto all the world).
Gradine:
Latin for "step." The retable or shelf (connected to the reredos most of the time) at the rear of the altar on which the cross and candlesticks are most often, but not always, placed.
