has been accomplished by the people of All Saints'. Since 1989 All
Saints' has grown from the 7th largest parish in the Diocese to the
3rd largest parish. The budget has grown from $275,000 to almost a
million dollars and in 2010, All Saints' had the
highest average Sunday attendance in the Diocese.
He looks forward to completing the present building
program, making sure the parish is debt-free after the building
program, and developing and maturing several ministries.

going for walks, movies, gardening, and writing children's stories.
His favorite football team is
the University of Tennessee Volunteers. Vivian's hobbies are gourmet

The Rev. Rick Hoover
was born in Springfield,
Missouri. Rick earned his BA in Writing at
Southwest
Missouri
State
University. He met his
wife, Melanie, in a young adults class at church the week she
arrived from Michigan for a new job.
They married in 1974 and have since lived in
Ohio,
Illinois and Florida.
As a Christian radio
broadcaster Rick visited many churches and came to love the
sacramental and liturgical heritage of the Episcopal Church. In
fact, the very first Episcopal Church service Rick attended was a
healing service in 1979 at All Saints’ Church in Lakeland, in St. Mary’s
chapel. After Rick and Melanie returned to Florida in 1987 they attended All Saints' for
over a decade before Rick began his studies to become a deacon. He
was ordained in December of 2007. In 2011 Rick took on the role of
Director of Communications for the parish, handling the church
bulletins, newsletters, and email notices. Rick also edits the All
Saints' Facebook group page.
Rick
has served on the All Saints’ vestry, Education Council, and as a verger
and Lay Eucharistic Minister. He is a Chaplain of the Order of St.
Luke at All Saints'. He teaches in the Sunday morning Adult Forums
and occasionally in various youth classes (pictures of Rick dressed
up as Samson are hidden elsewhere on the church web page).
For the Parish Academy
on Wednesday nights, Rick has taught courses on the Old and New
Testament,
A History of the Church
and Christianity,
the Thirty-Nine Articles, Elements of the Spiritual Life, and The Prayer Laboratory. These latter two subjects grew out of
Rick’s interest in the contemplative disciplines of the early Church
Fathers. Rick and Melanie lead a weekly centering prayer group in
their home to encourage personal spiritual growth in “all saints!”
Rick has written
books, articles for national publications, and produced audio and
video projects. He is
especially proud of working with his father, Mario, in publishing
the first English translation of a memoir by Rick’s
great-grandfather, the Rev. Willis Hoover, a Methodist-Episcopal
missionary to
Chile. The book recounts a famous
revival in Pastor Hoover’s church in 1909 (“A History of the
Pentecostal Revival in Chile”) and has been welcomed by
many contemporary church historians.
