ECUMENICAL AND CHRISTIAN
Have you ever wanted to read a truly good book but were turned off by
the millions offered in Books A Million? Or, were you ever
thoroughly excited about a book you have read but had no one
with whom to discuss it? Our
Christian Book Club is unique in that our members come from many
different churches in Lakeland and we offer books that have positive
values, intriguing plots, unusual settings and uplifting discussions
about a variety of cultures written by authors of note.
Our
selections are made democratically and we encourage all
members to bring new books to our attention. Some books we have
read recently include: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen; three
books by Silas House: A Parchment of Leaves; Clay's Quilt and Coal
Tattoo; Three Cups of Tea by Greg Morganstern; The Help by
Kathryn Stockett; Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout; The
Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini; The Camel Bookmobile by
Marsha Hamilton; The Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by
Jamie Ford; Amish Grace by Donald Kraybill, et al., and many
others.
In addition to the book that we choose for our monthly
discussion, our members often trade other books to read as
well, so there is an abundance of great information on current
literature available to all of us.
We meet every third Monday at Mitchell's Coffee House, 235 N. Kentucky
Ave., Lakeland from 10:30 am -12:30 pm for brunch and discussions,
which begin at 11:00 AM. Parking is good.
